Synopsis

The Pantanal Capybara Who Did Not Know How to Swim, by Telma de Souza Neves, is a children’s story set in the Pantanal region, near the city of Sonora, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The narrative follows Lara, a kind and helpful capybara who enjoys assisting other animals in difficult situations. One day, she rescues a blue macaw trapped in a cage set by animal traffickers. Later, while trying to reach aquatic plants in the lagoon, Lara falls into the water and realizes that she does not know how to swim. She is saved by the macaw and a heron, and this experience makes her understand the dangers faced by animals in a region full of rivers, lagoons, and wetlands. With the support of her friends, Lara creates a swimming school for young Pantanal mammals, promoting friendship, cooperation, respect among species, environmental awareness, and safety in aquatic environments.
