Gender and Science: the construction of equality in academic training and research: a construção da igualdade na formação acadêmica e na pesquisa

The book Gender and Science: the construction of equality in academic training and research brings together studies dedicated to the presence, production, and challenges of women in scientific careers. Organized by Marinete Aparecida Zacharias Rodrigues, the collection results from reflections linked to the project “Gender and Science: women’s participation in scientific careers in Mato Grosso do Sul,” developed with support from Fundect. The chapters analyze female participation in universities, undergraduate courses, fields of knowledge, and research experiences, highlighting advances, inequalities, and persistent barriers. The book discusses academic training, scientific leadership, access to and permanence in higher education, intersections of gender, race, and age, as well as the historical invisibility of women in science. By valuing research carried out by women and about women, the work contributes to expanding public and academic debate on gender equality, inclusion, social justice, and the democratization of scientific knowledge in contemporary Brazil.
