The book Music and Local Development on the Brazil-Paraguay Border analyzes the production of original music in the border region formed by Ponta Porã, Brazil, and Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay, relating it to the strengthening of cultural identity and local development. The study is based on the understanding that culture is a fundamental dimension of development processes, especially in territories marked by intense coexistence, symbolic exchanges, and sociocultural diversity. Drawing on theoretical references on culture, development, sociology of music, cultural industry, and identity, the research investigates local artists, their trajectories, song lyrics, and relations with public authorities. The results indicate that border music expresses belonging, language mixing, social criticism, influence of traditional culture, and meanings of regional integration. The book concludes that original music has the potential to value local culture and contribute to development, provided there is greater coordination among artists, public policies, and society.
